Journal #4-"Join the Flock" and "Enhance Your Twitter Experience"

Journal # 4- “Join the Flock” and “Enhance Your Twitter Experience”

Summary- In the article “Join the Flock,” describes the benefits of taking part in a PLN community. It is a great idea to connect with other professionals through social networks. Twitter is a great place for educators to interact with other teachers. In this social network teachers can ask for support or share teaching strategies that enhance student learning. In the article “Enhance Your Twitter Experience,” I learned how easy is to use and manage a Twitter account. You can collaborate and share useful information with colleagues from other parts of the world. She also shared that thanks to Twitter, she had the opportunity to meet important professionals that presented in her classroom. She shared a formula that tells you how much input one should put in Twitter in a regular basis, 70% of the time should be spent in sharing information from other people, 20% of the time should be spent on commenting and making opinions about different issues and the last 10% chi-chatting with other people.

Question #1-What are some of the advantages of using PLN?
I think that when you get involved in a PLN community you have the advantage of learning from different professionals. You have the opportunity to interact with people from all over the world and share your thoughts about different issues that affect of benefit our daily life.

Question #2- Are there any applications that make Twitter easy to manage?
There are many different resources/applications that can help you manage twitter accounts. For example Hootlet, TweetShrink, and TweetDeck.

Journal # 3 Students Need a Digital Driver's License Before They Start Their Engine

Journal # 3 "Students Need a Digital Driver's License Before They Start Their Engines" (NETS 3 & 4)

Summary- The article “Students Need a Digital Driver’s License Before They Start Their Engines” talks about the importance of teaching students what to do and what to avoid when using the Internet. I think that it is a good idea to train students how to use the web. I remember when I first used a computer I did not know anything about plagiarism and the legal implications that came with it. Actually, college was when I first learned how to cite information from the Internet. If we can have students learn all that before entering to college, it would make it easier for them to do research and to avoid problems. In this article, I also learned that some students started using the BYOD options, I think that students engage more in devices than books. The only problem with this option is that not a lot of students own tablets or iPads.

Question #1-When is the best age to start implementing the Digital Driver’s License project?
I think that the DDL project should start in high school or middle school. I think that elementary schools students do not really need to be trained to surf the Internet. Students start using technology in middle school and high school.

Question #2-What could be some of the implications that come with the Digital Driver’s License project?
In my opinion, some parents do not really want their kids to be exposed to the Internet and that could be a problem. Parents are afraid of sex predators and want do not want to have their kids close to the Internet without supervision.

Journal # 2 Learning without Borders (NETS 2-5)

Journal # 2 Learning without Borders (NETS 2-5)

Summary-The article shared very useful information about a different type of virtual interaction with students from a different country. I think that it is a great idea to make students familiar with different cultures. I think that if teachers would of start teaching students about different cultures from a very young age, this world would be very different. We should teach students to learn, value, respect, and cherish other cultures, by doing that we would eliminate a lot of problems associated with racism and stereotypes. I think that what these teachers are doing will really benefit the students from both countries and will prepare them for the future. They will not only learn to be more open-minded, but they will also learn how to interact with students from other countries and to share their ideologies, goals, and compare similarities in both cultures.

Question-Do students struggle to understand each other’s cultures?

I think that students do struggle when they try to understand other cultures because I also had the same problem when I came to the United States. I remember that when I came here it was hard for me to incorporate to a new lifestyle. I imagine that these students might face similar challenges but with the support and guidance from they teachers they can make this a great learning experience.

Question-What are some of the implications that teachers face when making this type of classroom virtual interaction possible?

In my opinion, they might face implications such as school and district regulation. But I think that it’s a great idea to incorporate different cultures and adopt new and innovative teaching techniques that will benefit students in the future.
